Three political programs have their voices and forces in Iranian polity and mainstream media inside and outside the country: monarchical absolutism, Islamic jurist absolutism and people's democracy (democracies of previous Soviet bloc). Monarchical and Islamic jurist constitutionalism have never been realized in Iranian polity. As polls and surveys show, the constituency for these poltical programs are less than 10 percent of the population. The republican program that is now represented by the Republican Coalition responds to a real need, and can overcome grievances of a stalled reform movement.
