GENEVA - The United States' declaration that Saddam Hussein is a prisoner of war leaves open the possibility of a war crimes trial by the Iraqis, the International Red Cross said Saturday.
Some Iraqi authorities expressed dismay at the Pentagon decision to give Saddam POW status, fearing that under the Geneva Conventions it would prevent a trial before an Iraqi court.
