PARIS : French Foreign Minister Dominique de Villepin called on Iran to show clemency to people jailed for their opinions on the occasion of the country's upcoming parliamentary election.
"I expressed our vigilance on the human rights situation in Iran especially concerning prisoners of conscience and I asked for a gesture of clemency," de Villepin said after talks with Hassan Rowhani, a senior member of the Iranian government.
